βοΈ Core Mechanics
Once boarding begins, the ships are locked side by side, and cannon damage almost stops mattering - the fight shifts to a crew battle. A mini-game starts where squads from both sides engage, and the player controls offense and defense, distributing damage and reducing losses. Units appear on screen, you can switch attack targets, and apply protection to your own squads to reduce incoming damage (usually only a limited number of protections can be active at once). Crew size is crucial: the more sailors you have, the higher your chance to win boarding, since total squad count and survivability are taken into account. Before boarding starts, you can reduce the enemy crew with grapeshot - this directly lowers their boarding strength. In the end, victory is decided by remaining crew: the side with more surviving units after the clash wins.
